Introduction

  • Includes an emphasis on the study of historical and cultural contexts
  • Gives insights into the role played by the visual arts in human achievement
  • Demonstrates the extent to which the art of a culture is influenced by aesthetic ideas as well as social, political, economic and other factors

  • Know and compare characteristics of artwork in various eras and cultures
  • Describe and place a variety of art objects in historical and cultural contexts
  • Analyze, describe and demonstrate how factors of time and place influence visual characteristics that give meaning and value to a work of art

  • Analyze the context and historical meaning of a specific work through cultural and aesthetic inquiry
  • Compare multiple purposes for creating works of art
