The following performance indicators from the Texas Standards for the Fine Arts (1998) are addressed in Odyssey Online.

Grade 6:


6.3 Students will demonstrate an understanding of art history and culture as records of human achievement.

  • Students are expected to identify in artworks the influence of historical and political events.
  • Students will compare specific works of art from a variety of cultures.


Grade 7:


7.1 The study of the arts shall challenge the imagination, foster reflective thinking, develop disciplined effort and problem solving skills.
7.2 By analyzing artistic styles and historical periods, the students shall develop respect for the traditions and contributions of diverse cultures.
7.3 The students shall develop an understanding of art history and culture as records of human achievement.


Grade 8:


8.1 The study of the arts shall challenge the imagination, foster reflective thinking, develop disciplined effort and problem solving skills.
8.2 By analyzing artistic styles and historical periods, the students shall develop respect for the traditions and contributions of diverse cultures.
8.3 Students shall identify cultural ideas expressed in artworks relating to social, political and environmental themes.


High School:


1 The study of the arts shall challenge the imagination, foster reflective thinking, develop disciplined effort and problem solving skills.
2 By analyzing artistic styles and historical periods, the students shall develop respect for the traditions and contributions of diverse cultures.
3A The student is expected to study a selected period in some depth.
3B The student shall trace the influences of various cultures on contemporary artworks.
