Treatment was undertaken to reduce surface grime and staining. Sooty grime was reduced by gentle swabbing with a custom formulated cleaning solution. A clay poultice was repeatedly applied to draw out the dark orange staining on the cheek. Like other marble sculptures in the collection, this stone was sampled for compositional analysis to determine the quarry source.
