The Docent Guild
One of the most vital and successful components of the Museum's Office of Educational Programs is the Docent Guild. Sixty men and women of all ages and backgrounds tour over 18,000 children and adults through the Museum's collections in over a dozen innovative, participatory programs.
Members of the Docent Guild participate in an extensive program of study that includes attendance in Emory University's Art History 101 class, in-gallery sessions with Emory faculty and Museum curators, and object-centered learning sessions with Museum staff. Once docent candidates have completed their initial training they are invited to audit classes in the art history department and other related departments with permission of the professor. Docents continue to attend monthly training sessions on the collection and special exhibitions.
