The Articulate Object

Every object has a story to tell. Our job is to learn the "language" they are written in. We believe that familiar objects from our everyday lives are a good starting point for learning the language of visual objects. Examining and analyzing objects that are part of our life experience helps us become aware of the clues we can read in objects from other times and places.

Choose from the following categories:

  • Everyday Objects: These online activities are adapted from our workshops with teachers. In a workshop setting, we use objects that can be handled and examined closely. On the Web, you'll be examining photographs of objects with some label information. We envision the activities as "tutorials" to give you ideas for using everyday objects to help your students look closely and develop critical thinking skills.

  • Museum Objects: Explore a museum object from multiple points of view using some of the questions and observation skills you developed examining everyday objects.
