Odyssey Online: Near East
Foods
Leeks, onions, lentils, wheat, and barley were available, as were herbs, spices, and fruits such as figs. Grapes were grown as early as the third millennium B.C. and were used in the production of wine. The native olive tree was particularly valued for its oil which was used not only for cooking but as a medicine, a perfume base, and lamp fuel.
