One of the most vital components of the Museum's Office of Educational Programs is the Docent Guild. Sixty men and women of all ages and backgrounds tour over 18,000 children and adults through the Museum's collections and exhibitions each year.
Members of the Docent Guild participate in an extensive program of study that includes attendance in Emory University's Art History 101 class, in-gallery sessions with Emory faculty and Museum curators, and object-centered learning sessions with Museum staff. Once docent candidates have completed their initial training they continue to attend training sessions on the collection and special exhibitions that take place on select Mondays. Docents commit to giving two tours on a selected day, Tuesday through Friday, three times a month.
