The Etruscans
The Etruscans lived north of the Tiber River by about 900 BC. We're
not sure where they came from - maybe from Asia Minor. They lived in
city states and were fairly wealthy from trading their high quality
metalwork and pottery.
This bronze female figure is an example of their metalwork. Bronze
statuettes like this one were probably offerings to the gods or included
in Etruscan graves. Much of what we know about the Etruscans comes from
their tombs.
