47-Ram Horn

Title Ram Horn
Era Egyptian, Late Period, 722–332 BCE
Medium Bronze
Credit Gift of the Georges Ricard Foundation. 2018.10.767

This bronze horn was once part of a statue of a ram-headed god. The creator gods Khnum and Amun-Re were often depicted as ram-headed gods. This horn was fastened to the ram’s head by means of a thick tang on its backside. The casting beautifully shows the horn’s graceful curve and the striations of its surface.
