EPIC! The Life and Times of Gilgamesh
July 22 — 26, ages 7 to 9 (FULL)
June 29 — August 2, ages 10 to 12
Enkidu, Shamhat, Ishtar, and Humbaba join King Gilgamesh in an epic poem from ancient Sumeria, written in cuneiform on clay more than 3,000 years ago. In fact, Gilgamesh is the oldest known written story! Children will get to know the characters and the settings of Gilgamesh through storyboarding, scenography and costume-making, and acting with performing artist Priscilla Smith. Children will also create their own stories on clay tablets using cuneiform script and cylinder seals like the ones in the Morgens West Foundation Galleries of Ancient Near Eastern at the Carlos Museum.
