The Painted Lady

This object is a small vessel of carved bone, standing at only 3 1/8 inches tall. It is composed of a lid with a delicate, knob-shaped handle, a main body, which is hollow on the inside, and a disk-shaped base. The vessel’s lid and body are both intricately carved. The cone-shaped body of the vessel bears two portraits in roundel-shaped frames and two crosses with palmette-shaped blooms.
