In the 30th annual Nix Mann Endowed Lecture, titled "From Malaïka to Yemoja: A Reflection on Breaking Free," French-Beninese author and photographer Laeïla Adjovi delves into her artistic and literary practice, discussing topics that permeate her work and research: multilayered identities, fragmented collective memory, the link between the African continent and its diasporas, and the (mis)representation of the African cultural heritage. Adjovi's photographic series, Malaika Dotou Sankofa, is featured in the exhibition And I Must Scream, on view at the Carlos from January 29 through May 15, 2022.
