In conjunction with the exhibition "Tell the Whole Story from Beginning to End": The Ramayana in Indian Painting, artist Ande Cook created a step-by-step lesson plan that teaches students of all ages and abilities how to create a work of art in the style of the paintings featured in the exhibition.
In her guide, Cook breaks down the elements of an Indian painting. Narratively complex, Indian paintings often depict several scenes within a single image. Cook teaches students first how to "read" an Indian painting and then how to use elements such as architecture, color fields, and consistent characters to construct a narrative of their own.
